Your Competitive Advantage

Corporations may or may not be people, depends on who you ask. However, the parallels between corporate and personal success are endless. This is expected, given that corporations consist of people.

Competitive Advantage is likely the most common business school buzzword. And for good reason, without an edge against your competition, you’re just doing the same thing as everyone else.

The same = normal.

And in life, as in business, normal is boring. People and markets want newness, excitement. They want abnormality

So how do you find your own competitive advantage? Introspect, introspect introspect.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What am I good at?

  • What about my background and experience sets me apart?

  • What niche do I have credibility in?

Examples from my own introspection:

  • I’m a decent writer.

  • I’ve worked in Media/AdTech for 6+ years and have spent the last 3 earning my MBA.

  • I have deep knowledge in what it’s like to balance a career in bleeding edge technology while learning and applying business school lessons. I’m creating content that I wish existed when I was starting out.

Hone your edge, and you will machete through the thick woody brush of normality.
