Personal Following Economy: A Primer
Diving into what I've dubbed the Personal Following Economy, a key part of the larger Creator Economy. It's all about creating a self-boosting ecosystem centered on an individual.
The idea? Master these three channels, and you're looking at some impressive returns through advertising and list licensing.
1️⃣ Channel 1: LinkedIn Presence 1️⃣
As creators get more polished, LinkedIn is becoming the go-to for self-promotion and deal-making. This includes brand advertising and investments in budding companies that could gain from a creator's push and capital. LinkedIn's crowd is business-focused, not here for just entertainment.
2️⃣ Channel 2: Owned and Operated Newsletters 2️⃣
With constant platform changes, having your own online newsletter means direct access to your audience. Email brings a personal touch, allowing for deeper content exchange. Plus, longer content = more engagement and ad space.
3️⃣ Channel 3: TikTok and YouTube 3️⃣
While LinkedIn and newsletters are text-heavy, many prefer video. Enter TikTok for catchy, short-form videos with viral potential. Then, guide your audience to YouTube for longer engagement, mirroring the newsletter's ad benefits.
This approach sets up a powerful dynamic: two channels for attracting (top-of-funnel) and retaining (bottom-of-funnel) audiences. It's a strategy that aspiring creators and influencers would do best to adopt for scaling engagement.
